Cinanima is one of the best-known and respected international festivals, screening new animation films produced around the world. Founded in 1976, it is Portugal’s oldest film festival and the third oldest animation festival in the world. Cinanima is also an Academy Award-qualifying festival: its Grand Prize winner becomes eligible for the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. The festival’s International Competition is spread across four sections: Short Films, Feature Films, Student Films, and the All Aboard showcase for emerging and student talent, drawing entries from animators around the world each year.
